Buchanan Vivant is the old Bell South Warehouse located in Downtown Lafayette, Louisiana. This is the journey of developing the building into downtown lofts and a chic wine bar called Velvet Noir
The Who, What, Where, and Why: An Introduction to Buchanan Vivant
Lafayette, Louisiana is in dire need of a way to bring sophisticated lifestyle back to the downtown scene. This area of the city is filled with law offices, banking, dentists, Non-Profit Organizations, Public Services, and more. All of the business would benefit from an after work “hang out,” a place to bring there clients for a laid-back business meeting, or a venue to hold a fundraiser.
Since young professionals set the pace for the future of an area, giving some the opportunity to reside in an “up and coming” city zone will also help further develop. Not to mention shortening the distance of travel from home and work is also a very desirable aspect for the young professional mind.
Project Description:
When taking into account all the aspects of downtown life and the need for a resurgence of the professional atmosphere reorganization is the solution. Through the creation of sophisticated social scenes and a new venue for professional functions different types of professional users will use the space.
A multiuse project of a wine bar and downtown loft living I feel will help to transform the social scene back to the professional tone that it used to possess.
Client and User Identity:
The users and clients for this downtown environment will be the young professionals of the area and the professional businesses that require venues for their events.
Other users of the building will consist of the tenants and their visitors; facility management and potential “groundskeepers;” wine bar staff, management, and owners; and wine bar patrons.
The goals of the users and clients are similar but will very. The tenants goals of the loft spaces are to have an enjoyable living environment that is in a convenient location and is easily accessible.
Professional businesses’ goals also include a convenient location and easy building access but there is also a need for a professional feel. This professional setting should allow for easy relaxation and effortless conversation
For the wine bar business side of the client spectrum special organization is a must. In order to efficiently run a business there should be a convenient access to all the business supply needs.
